NJMS-UH Cancer Center- Our Facility
The New Jersey Medical School – University Hospital Cancer Center (CC), is located at the corner of Bergen Street and South Orange Avenue on the Newark campus. This facility, opened in October of 2006, is designed to support innovative basic and translational research, as well as provide the highest quality clinical care.
The Cancer Center represents a new paradigm in focused research initiatives. The laboratories are chosen from among the many academic departments at NJ Medical School. This interdisciplinary approach creates unique collaborative opportunities that push science in new directions. It is our mission to develop research programs that take advantage of this diversity and lead to advancements in the laboratory as well as the clinic.
The 9-story, 220,000 square foot building is physically connected to University Hospital, which allows patients to access additional clinical services, clinical research opportunities, screening and education programs and administrative offices. Research laboratories and core facilities are located on levels F, G, H and I. Besides accommodating over 70,000 square feet of laboratory space, the CC is the new home to six NJ Medical School Core Research Facilities. The Digital Imaging Core houses 2 confocal microscopes, a PALM laser capture scope, tissue processing services and a host of support resources. The Center for Advanced Proteomics Research offers a variety of equipment and services for the design, process, acquisition and analysis of proteomics-based research. The Cancer Center also contains satellite facilities of the Flow Cytometry and Comparative Medicine Cores, and is home to the Biostastics Core and Clinical Research Group.
